Common Car Issues Fixed
If you have a car in Dubai, you must have thought whether it’s better to take a Car AMC (Annual Maintenance Contract) or simply pay for servicing when needed. The answer is not the same for everyone. It depends on how much you drive, what type of vehicle you own, and how you prefer to manage your car expenses.
At Max Garage in Dubai, we help our customers with this decision every day. Hopefully we can share some of our knowledge with you on this.

An Annual Maintenance Contract or AMC (as it is commonly known) is a fixed service agreement that covers your routine maintenance for twelve months or more. Instead of paying every time your car needs servicing, you pay once upfront or in agreed installments, and scheduled services are covered during the contract period.
In Dubai, a Car AMC usually includes regular oil and filter changes, vehicle inspections, diagnostic scanning, and standard service labour. Some contracts may also include certain wear-and-tear components like break pads and sparkplugs replacement if the required and may include roadside assistance, depending on the package.
The biggest advantage of a Car AMC is predictability. You know your servicing costs in advance, and you don’t have to worry about fluctuating labour rates or unexpected minor service bills throughout the year.
Pay-as-you-go servicing is exactly what it sounds like. You bring your car in when it needs maintenance or repairs, and you pay for that specific service only. There is no long-term commitment and no upfront payment.
This option gives you flexibility. If your car requires fewer visits to the workshop, you may spend less overall. However, costs can vary from year to year, especially if unexpected repairs arise.
For drivers who cover low annual mileage or who plan to sell their vehicle soon, pay-as-you-go often makes practical sense.
Driving in Dubai is very different from driving in cooler climates. High temperatures put extra stress on engine oil, cooling systems, batteries, rubber hoses, and suspension components. Heavy traffic and long highway drives also increase wear and tear.
Because of this, most vehicles in the UAE need servicing every 10,000 kilometres, even if international manufacturer intervals suggest longer gaps.
If you drive between 20,000 and 30,000 kilometres per year, a Car AMC can often be more cost-effective because you will require multiple services annually. On the other hand, if you drive under 10,000 to 12,000 kilometres per year, paying per visit may result in lower total costs.
For owners of BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, and other premium or performance vehicles, maintenance costs are generally higher due to specialized parts and advanced systems. In these cases, an AMC can help control labour expenses and ensure servicing is never delayed.
Consistent maintenance is especially important for luxury vehicles in Dubai because proper service history directly impacts resale value. An AMC can help maintain a documented and consistent service schedule, which is attractive to future buyers.
Not necessarily. Some low-cost AMCs may appear attractive but exclude important components or use lower-grade oils and parts. It is always important to check exactly what is included, whether genuine or OEM-quality parts are used, and whether diagnostic labour is covered.
Transparency is key. A properly structured Car AMC should clearly define its inclusions and exclusions so there are no surprises later.
Pay-as-you-go servicing works well for drivers who prefer full control over every repair decision. It is also practical for older vehicles where repair needs may be unpredictable. In such cases, committing to a yearly contract may not always provide maximum value.
If you plan to sell your car within a short period, taking a Car AMC may not be necessary.
When you take an AMC it does not mean that your car is covered by a warranty. A warranty is initially given by the manufacturer. Additional warranty can be purchased from third party providers which usually cover major mechanical or manufacturing defects. An AMC, on the other hand, only covers routine servicing and agreed maintenance items. It does not guarantee that parts will not fail, nor does it replace manufacturer warranty coverage. Many car owners in Dubai misunderstand this and assume that by taking an AMC they will not have any further maintenance expenses. So it’s important to know that an AMC is a service plan — not a protection plan against defects.
An AMC usually covers scheduled maintenance such as oil changes, filters, and inspections, but it does not cover unexpected mechanical breakdowns. If your gearbox fails, your engine develops internal damage, or an electronic control unit malfunctions, those repairs are typically outside the scope of a standard AMC unless clearly stated in the contract. Always review the inclusions and exclusions carefully to avoid surprises, especially for older vehicles where the risk of mechanical failure is higher.
There is no correct answer. High-mileage drivers and luxury car owners often benefit from the stability of a Car AMC. Low-mileage drivers or those seeking flexibility may prefer paying per service.
At Max Garage in Dubai, we offer transparent Car AMC packages and honest pay-as-you-go servicing. Our goal is not to push customers into contracts, but to recommend the most practical and cost-effective solution based on your vehicle, mileage, and driving habits.
The real question is not simply which option is cheaper. It is which option protects your vehicle better in the long run while giving you financial peace of mind.
